Love the criss-cross in the centre of the first one.

There is still a hint of something similar in the second, but much more subdued.

read moreDifferent leaves, but the flowers are the same. There are several species of the Banksia shrubs with an interesting collection of leaf shapes.
My favourite today is the second one.
read moreHave just cleaned out this project of all the dust, and painted over the rust. The original colours were brown on gold.
If I lived in Bendigo I would paint the house in a light colour, with green wrought iron around the verandas to keep it looking fresh during the heat of summer.
read moreEvery time I open this file I see old fashioned blocks in old fashion quilt designs, but I love old fashioned stuff. The cupboard which hold up our TV was made from timber used in a crate used when household goods were shipped to Australia from England in the late 18oos. It still has a bit of a lean to fit the dirt floor of the kitchen of the house I grew up in.
The lino floor covering I found in a kitchen drawer in the 1970s house we now live in is possibly a hundred years younger than that ...

Wishing you all a peaceful evening before a fun filled and a happy day with family and friends.
read moreInteresting!
Setting blocks on point makes the quilt bigger though you have to include some fillers around the edges.
Using some half of some blocks can add some interesting options!
read moreTake a plain sheet, use it as the top layer of a quilt sandwich, pick a contrast thread and start quilting. The blank areas in the designs in this project file I would fill with a background filler such as stippling.
I started this project file ages ago, but it went into hiding on my computer, but now it has been found I am playing with the block designs and adding more quilt designs.
I love the second design, but would add cross hatch as the background filler in this design.
read moreInteresting! Knee rug or tablecloth? Perhaps one of each.
Make the applique border wider and it is definitely for a bed.
read moreI love the first design!
The quilting as shown I would do in a contrast colour, but I would add some fillers in a colour to match the background.
The second design appeals to me too, but nowhere as much as the first.
read moreThe low contrast in these designs would make a very restful look in a bedroom.
How ever, there are only 2 designs left in the project file and I think I will play with the colours a bit!
read moreNine applique blocks plus lots and lots of quilting.
I like the second one … a bit more applique, less quilting.
read moreAnother old project I have been playing with, this time also in a new colourway. The original colours were very dark, and I love them, but I am also loving the softer colours in the new version.
Need to play a bit more … suspect a lighter background is needed in some places.
read moreI don’t think I would like a dark quilt on my bed, but I love these designs anyway.
My favourite is the second one … even if I didn’t like it on my bed I could put in a spare bed!
read moreI haven’t opened this project for years, but thought I would bring it back into the spotlight today, as I have a yearning for lovely fresh strawberries. Unfortunately, I will have to wait a while as it is too cold for strawberries to bear fruit at this time of the year here.
Enough to make my mouth water!
read moreI like the centre but not the border … will have to delete that from my block library.
Love the second design.
read moreThis project file is a real jumble of some of my block designs … sort of a playground for a virtual quilter, or perhaps a crazy quilter.
These designs need some quilting to fill in the spaces between the applique and quilting motifs. I would suggest a simple but small grid, or small bubbles, or stippling Perhaps some trapunto for the applique and the motifs just to add another dimension.
read moreLove the first design, though I haven’t added any quilting motifs, but that is because I would keep it very simple, in black thread on the black background.
Love the second design for today too … and I have had a thought that I would make two tops and add wadding to both and quilt, then tie the two together back to back so it is fully reversible. That would give me the problem of working out which side should be every time I made the bed!
read moreI love old buildings with wrought iron lace around the roof line and the veranda. Bendigo is one place to see a great collection. The colours I have used in this series represent the fertile soil around Bendigo, and other areas where mining was important in the early settlement period, and the farming communities which replaced the miners.
My favourite today is the second design.
